Lexington Gargoyles Snapback Trucker Hat
One thousand years ago, superstition and the sword ruled. It was a time of darkness. It was a world of fear. It was the age of gargoyles. Stone by day, warriors by night, We were betrayed by the humans we had sworn to protect, frozen in stone by a magic spell for a thousand years. Now, here in Manhattan, the spell is broken, and we live again! We are defenders of the night! We are gargoyles!
The gargoyles of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris are among its most iconic features. These stone creatures were added during the 19th-century restoration by architect Eugène Viollet-le-Duc. They serve both practical and decorative purposes. As gargoyles, they function as waterspouts, diverting rainwater away from the cathedral walls to prevent erosion. But they also contribute to the Gothic atmosphere of Notre-Dame, with designs that include fantastical creatures, chimeras, and grotesques. Their menacing forms are meant to ward off evil spirits and convey the medieval belief in protection and divine presence.
Each gargoyle has its own personality—some appear ferocious, others contemplative. The most famous, the "Strix" or "Stryga," is a horned demon-like figure with its chin resting on its hands, gazing thoughtfully over the city. This iconic gargoyle has become a symbol of both Notre-Dame and Gothic architecture in general.
